D'abord associé au grunge et au metal fusion à travers ses participations à Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog et Audioslave, Chris Cornell se révèle être en solo un artiste éclectique. D'abord touché par un certain psychédélisme avec Euphoria Morning en 1999, il revient à un rock grunge pour Carry On en 2007. Produit par Timbaland, Scream attendu en 2009 le voit aborder une fusion inédite hip-hop et metal pour un album présenté comme conceptuel.
