Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs

Sam the Sham est le nom de scène du chanteur texan Domingo Samudio. Il est resté dans les annales pour sa tenue de scène, mélange pré-disco et orientalisant - avec le fameux turban - en hommage à Yul Brynner dans Les Dix Commandements, ainsi que son tube « Wooly Bully » (1965), qui introduisit le tex-mex dans le rock. Domingo Samudio est né le 23 novembre 1933 à Dallas (Texas).Il forme son premier groupe en 1961, mais le peu de succès rencontré entraîne sa dissolution l'année suivante. En mai 1963, Samudio intègre le groupe Andy and the Nightriders où jouaient  Andy Anderson, David A. Martin et Vincent Lopez. Le groupe connaîtra un certain succès au Congo Club. Son surnom Sam the sham vient du fait qu'il fut engagé comme organiste alors ...
