The Cribs pourrait être une formation anglaise à guitares de plus si le groupe n'avait pas laissé une belle promesse sur son album Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever l'an passé, et s'il n'avait pas trouvé une seconde jeunesse en recrutant Johnny Marr, l'un des guitaristes les plus réputés et tranchants du Royaume, un de ces princes de la six-cordes qui peut transformer la teneur d'un disque. Sur Ignore the Ignorant, Johnny Marr ne se prive pas d'imprimer sa marque en adressant un clin d'oeil aux nostalgiques de The Smiths dans « Last Year's Snow » et « Cheat on Me ».
